First Death from Omicron Variant Registered in Japan
Japan has recorded its first death of a person infected with the Omicron variant of the coronavirus. This information was reported by RIA Novosti, citing the Kyodo agency.
It was noted that the deceased was elderly, and the examination confirmed that the cause of death was indeed the Omicron variant.
On the previous day, Japan experienced an unprecedented surge in coronavirus infections, with 22,045 new cases detected on January 14, the highest since September 1 of the previous year. In just one day, 11 people have died.
Earlier reports indicated that the Omicron variant had been detected in all 47 prefectures of Japan.
