Video: Driver of Opel That Crashed Into Gas Pipeline Had Suspended License, Investigative Committee Reveals Details
The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia is conducting measures under the Armenian Criminal Code, Article 242, Part 2, and Article 2431, Part 1, regarding a criminal case initiated about an accident that occurred on January 13, 2022, at approximately 18:00 on Artashisyan Street in Yerevan, and the subsequent fire.
According to preliminary information, a 76-year-old man, who had his driving rights suspended, was driving an Opel vehicle and collided with a VAZ-2101 vehicle on Hovsepian Street in Yerevan. After that, he reached the intersection of Hovsepian and Artashisyan streets, veered off the road, and crashed into a gas pipeline located in front of one of the buildings. As a result, a fire caused by a gas leak ignited the Opel vehicle, and a person in the rear seat was completely burned. The 76-year-old driver, suffering from bodily injuries, was transported to a medical center.
The fire also caused thermal damage to the exterior of the buildings on Artashisyan Street. During the preliminary investigation, inspections were conducted at the scene and on the vehicles involved, and the driver's clothing was seized. Forensic examinations have been appointed.
Necessary measures are being taken to clarify all circumstances of the incident, as well as to identify the deceased person found in the vehicle. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
