Police Officer Crashes into Parked Hyundai and Iron Fence: 1 Dead, 1 Injured

Yesterday, on January 9, a serious and tragic car accident occurred in the Kotayk region. At around 23:40, a 39-year-old resident of Gegharkunik, A. Melkonyan, while driving a VAZ 2107, collided with a Hyundai Genesis vehicle driven by a 26-year-old resident of Yerevan, Razmik Harutyunyan, on the 43rd kilometer of the Yerevan-Sevan highway as he was heading towards Sevan. Following this, he crashed into an iron fence.

According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, as a result of the collision, A. Melkonyan was taken to the 'Sevan' medical center with bodily injuries, while a female passenger, 43-year-old Ani Manukyan from Gegharkunik, died at the scene.

Shamshyan's information indicates that the drivers involved in the accident are A. Melkonyan, who works as a senior inspector in the community police division of the Sevan police department, holding the rank of police captain, and V. Harutyunyan, who works as a nurse in the intensive care unit of 'Armenia' medical center.
