Court Acquits Djokovic; Tennis Star to Compete in Australian Open
The 20-time Grand Slam champion and world number one Serbian Novak Djokovic has won his case in court and will be allowed to participate in the Australian Open.
The judge stated that the decision to cancel Djokovic's Australian visa had "no basis whatsoever." The ruling determined that Novak should be immediately released from the quarantine hotel. His Serbian passport and personal belongings are to be returned to the tennis player.
It is worth noting that on January 5, the Australian Border Force detained Novak Djokovic at Melbourne Airport due to issues related to his visa. The Serbian attempted to enter Australia on a visa that claimed he had a medical exemption from the coronavirus vaccination.
During his testimony, Djokovic spent more than six hours in an isolated area of the airport under police supervision. Following this, Australian authorities decided to cancel the athlete's visa and deport him from the country.
