Tokaev Reports on Casualties and Injuries in Almaty
In Almaty, hundreds of civilians and military personnel have been killed or injured as a result of terrorist actions. This announcement was made by Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokaev.
“Not only administrative buildings have suffered from the hands of bandits, but also the personal property of civilians. Not to mention the lives and health of hundreds of civilians and military personnel,” Tokaev noted in his address to the population.
It should be reminded that from January 2nd, mass riots began in Kazakhstan, leading to the resignation of the government. A state of emergency has been declared in the country for two weeks.
The President of Kazakhstan announced that he has appealed to the CSTO regarding the fight against the threat of terrorism and stabilizing the situation in the country. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, in his capacity as CSTO Secretary-General, immediately began consultations with the leaders of CSTO member states upon Kazakhstan's request and announced that the CSTO would send collective peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan to stabilize and resolve the situation.
Later, it became known that Armenia sent soldiers to Kazakhstan as part of the CSTO peacekeeping forces. This involves about 100 servicemen who are tasked with securing strategic assets.
