Kazakhstan President Issues Statement

Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has announced that constitutional order has largely been restored across all regions of the country, with local authorities controlling the situation. This was reported on January 7 by the press service of the head of state, summarizing the results of the anti-terrorism headquarters meeting.

“An anti-terror operation has begun. Law enforcement forces are working diligently. Constitutional order has been largely restored in all regions of the country. Local authorities are controlling the situation. However, terrorists are still wielding weapons and causing harm to citizens' property. Therefore, anti-terror operations must continue until the complete destruction of the militants,” Tokayev stated.

During the meeting, reports were also presented by the acting ministers of internal affairs and defense, as well as the chairman of the National Security Committee.

“As reported by the heads of law enforcement agencies, units of the CSTO peacekeeping forces have begun arriving in Kazakhstan to assist in establishing order. This contingent has arrived for a limited period, mainly to carry out operations for the protection and safeguarding of strategic facilities,” the press service clarified.

Kazakhstan's president has also issued a number of directives aimed at further stabilizing the situation in the country, TASS reported.
