Gunshots in Syunik Province: Official Detained

On January 6, a 52-year-old resident of Syunik Province, Arthur Hovhannisyan, was detained by the Kapan police department.

According to shamshyan.com, at around 19:40 yesterday, information was received in the Kapan police department about gunshots heard in the community of Kaghunut.

Upon arriving promptly at the location, Kapan police determined that the shots had been fired by A. Hovhannisyan using his own firearm.

According to the website, Hovhannisyan is the administrative head of Kaghunut and justified the act of firing shots by stating, “It’s my birthday today,” and during the celebration of his birthday ceremony, he shot from his “VEPR-KM” type hunting rifle.

After some time, he was released, and the firearm was confiscated. The Kapan police department is preparing materials on the incident.
