Armen Grigoryan on Sending CSTO Peacekeepers to Kazakhstan

The Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, Armen Grigoryan, addressed questions during an interview on why Armenia, as the presiding country of the CSTO, decided to send a peacekeeping mission to Kazakhstan, including Armenian units, and whether Armenia is interested in having the CSTO mechanisms operational.

“The answer here is unambiguous: yes! If the answer is ‘yes,’ then Armenia, based on that response, has sought to take steps to ensure that the CSTO mechanisms are operational. A process has taken place in the logic of the CSTO mechanisms working,” Grigoryan stated.

“First, I would like to mention that when the Prime Minister of Armenia was informed about the ongoing processes in Kazakhstan and received President Tokayev's request for the CSTO to provide assistance, consultations were initiated with the leaders of all other CSTO member countries, and everyone assessed the situation. When Armenia made its decision as the presiding country, there were no longer revolutionary processes; terrorist actions were already occurring. A decision was made within the framework of ensuring stability and security,” Grigoryan added.
