VIDEO: Troops Move Towards Almaty Center
Large numbers of soldiers are currently being deployed to the center of Almaty. Efforts are underway to clear protesters from the city center.
It is noteworthy that gunfire continues. The number of detainees has reached nearly 2,000. The number of casualties among police ranks stands at around 13.
Protests in Kazakhstan began during the first days of the New Year, with residents of Zhanaozen and Aktau taking to the streets to protest against the doubling of liquefied gas prices. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev declared a state of emergency first in the Almaty region and then across the country.
Additionally, military personnel from Russia, Armenia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Belarus have been sent to Kazakhstan as part of the CSTO peacekeeping forces.
