Death Toll and Casualties Among Law Enforcement in Alma-Ata

Approximately 12 law enforcement officers have been killed and 353 have sustained injuries of varying degrees due to clashes in Alma-Ata. One of the deceased was reportedly beheaded. This information has been reported by TASS.

It is noted that large-scale protests in Kazakhstan's cities began on January 1 in response to the hike in liquefied gas prices. Starting January 1, the purchase of liquefied gas in the republic began to occur at market prices, reflecting supply and demand dynamics. The government explained that this type of fuel was previously sold below its cost, causing losses for producers. However, the increase in fuel prices led to public discontent, particularly in Aktau and Zhanaozen, where protesters started demanding lower prices.
