Azerbaijan's Known Losses in 2021: Razm.info
From January 1 to December 31, 2021, the specialized website Razm.info reported at least 78 losses in the Azerbaijani armed forces and related power structures. Of these, at least 13 died or were killed in combat conditions.
It has come to our attention that the circumstances of death for 58 of the reported losses suggest non-combat scenarios, while the causes of death for another 7 remain unknown. Among the losses, 3 held the rank of lieutenant colonel, and at least 24 were conscript soldiers.
Of the 78 losses mentioned, Azerbaijan officially acknowledged only 53, while information regarding the others was obtained from Azerbaijani opposition media and social networks. It is noteworthy that Azerbaijan consistently conceals its losses (especially following the August 2014 clashes), with some losses being revealed months or even years later (for example).
It is highly likely that there are also losses that remain unknown to Razm.info.
Azerbaijan's armed forces' losses in 2021, according to Razm.info, included a remarkable incident on November 30, involving a helicopter crash during exercises, which resulted in the deaths of 13 active-duty and 1 reserve officer of the Azerbaijani State Border Service.
For comparison, in 2020, Razm.info reported about 55 losses in the Azerbaijani armed forces and related power structures, not counting the losses incurred from the war that began on September 27, 2020.
