The price of gas in Kazakhstan doubled starting January 1, rising from 60 tenge (10 rubles) to 120 tenge (20 rubles).
Today, protesters stormed the Almaty city hall and set it on fire. Additionally, they burned down the buildings of the prosecutor's office and the headquarters of the ruling party. Protesters have also seized the presidential residence in Almaty. Clashes are occurring between police and protesters in the city center.
