The Ministry Responds to the Incident in the Village of Ohanavan
The Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia has addressed the case of a bear getting caught in a trap in the village of Ohanavan. The ministry reports that materials are being prepared in the investigative department of the Ashtarak division of the police regarding the incident.
“Today, in one of the backyards of a house in the village of Ohanavan, Aragatcots region, a citizen had set up a homemade trap made of metal wire, in which a bear cub was discovered. The cub had attempted to free itself but was unfortunately strangled and died. Materials are being prepared in the investigative department of the Ashtarak division of the police regarding the fact. It is unacceptable to harm any species registered in the ‘Red Book’ of Armenia, as every animal inhabiting the nature of Armenia is an integral part of our country's ecosystem. The Armenian Criminal Code foresees responsibility for killing a bear registered in the Republic of Armenia's ‘Red Book,’” the statement said.
