New Fee System for Incoming Freight Trucks in Armenia, Sanosyan Reveals Details
The Armenian government plans to change the fee collection system for freight trucks entering the country. This information was shared by Gnel Sanosyan, the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures, in an interview with Sputnik Armenia.
“This is a comprehensive process and is not only related to cargo transported from Iran. Armenia has certain international obligations, and discussions are underway to develop legislative initiatives within that framework. It has not yet reached a final form,” said Sanosyan.
He explained that the essence of the change is that while there is currently a fee set for the entry of freight trucks, they plan to establish a fee based on the weight of the cargo and the kilometers driven in our country.
According to the minister, such a system operates in several countries. Sanosyan noted that, on one hand, this seems fair, but on the other hand, it raises the issue of including local and domestic freight transport in this sector.
“This issue is still in the discussion phase, and we will also listen to the opinions of our partners before making a new decision,” the minister stated.
Earlier, Sanosyan discussed this issue with a delegation led by Mehdi Mirashrafi, head of Iran’s customs service, during their meeting, when the Iranian side raised the topic of the fixed fee charged to Iranian freight trucks.
In turn, Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan announced that Armenia and Iran are discussing the issue of liberalizing bilateral transport operations.
