Yerevan Will Be Better Governed: Pashinyan on Marutyan's Impeachment
The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, sees an institutional problem connected to the change of the mayor of Yerevan. He stated, 'This is an institutional problem. The state institutions in our country have not been established. And we have never allowed state institutions to become established. In this regard, I want to draw attention to an important fact: we had indirect elections for the mayor in Yerevan for a long time, as a result of negotiations with international organizations, which meant that there is a council, a mayor, and a first mayor who is also a member of the council. Now, as of 2021, we have made elections for all cities and communities with over 4,000 citizens proportional, where the party is elected and not the individual. The mayor is also elected from the party list,' said Nikol Pashinyan.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the 'My Step' faction of the Yerevan council demonstrated integrity and made a politically correct and competent decision.
