During a year-end press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin responded to a journalist's question about what would happen if transgender men participated in women's competitions. “There should be some common sense in everything. A man declaring himself a woman and, for instance, participating in weightlifting or any other sport would result in women's sports ceasing to exist altogether. I adhere to the traditional view that a woman is a woman, and a man is a man,” Putin stated, as reported by RIA Novosti Sport.
