Armenia Assumes the Presidency of the CSTO
Armenia has officially assumed the presidency of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) for 2022. The presidency was handed over to Armenia from Tajikistan during the organization’s recent session in September 2021.
Armenia has already outlined its priorities for the presidency, taking into account the challenges of recent years. These include enhancing the effectiveness of the CSTO's operations and further developing the military component of the organization. Other traditional priorities of the CSTO remain unchanged, including the fight against terrorism, extremism, illicit drug trafficking, and illegal migration.
Among the new priorities is the organization's response to biological threats. A coordinating council of authorized bodies on biological security will be established under the committee of the secretaries of the security councils of CSTO member states.
At the end of 2022, the presidency of the CSTO will transfer from Armenia to Belarus.
