One Year Since Gavar Shootings: Noteworthy Situation in Court

According to the "Zhoghovurd" daily, one year has passed since the shootings in Gavar and the subsequent mass disturbances, and a noteworthy situation has emerged in court regarding this criminal case.

It is reiterated that there are thirteen defendants involved in this high-profile case, twelve defenders, seven victims, and two representatives of the victims. This incident occurred on April 28, when gunfire was heard on Freedom Avenue in Gavar, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to six others. Some of the injured were taken to hospitals in Gavar, while others were transported to Yerevan.

The Police Chief of Armenia at the time, Arman Sargsyan, who is currently the Deputy Minister of Defense, rushed to the scene. The former police chief was unable to prevent the crime. Following the shootings, the relatives of the deceased rushed to the hospital to take revenge on the injured, leading to a second incident at the hospital, where they broke doors and windows, stormed the wards, and caused injuries, even attempting to cut the throat of one of the injured.

Furthermore, "Zhoghovurd" has learned that the criminal case has been under the jurisdiction of the court since January 8, 2021. However, for months, no court hearings have taken place due to the absence of various participants in the proceedings. As a result, parts of the criminal case have been separated and will be examined separately.
