Conflict Erupts Between MPs Haik Sargsyan and Narek Grigoryan

The newspaper "Hraparak" reports that a conflict occurred recently between MPs Haik Sargsyan and Narek Grigoryan of the ruling Civil Contract party. Grigoryan demanded a "clarification" from Sargsyan regarding his loss in the local elections of Gavar. The altercation reportedly ended with a physical scuffle.

On December 5, Narek Grigoryan led the party list in the consolidated Gavar community, having previously been discharged due to self-harm from military service, and has spent considerable time engaged in fishing. Described as a spontaneous personality, Grigoryan faced defeat to current mayor Gurgen Martirosyan, an independent candidate who was formerly associated with UN member Gurgen Arsenyan.

After the elections, Grigoryan stated in a conversation with reporters that, essentially, the Civil Contract party had two candidates in Gavar. He noted that the winning candidate, the mayor, is also connected to the Civil Contract and had supported the government in the last parliamentary elections. When reporters reminded him that the Civil Contract had its candidate, Grigoryan, Sargsyan responded, "Yes, we had our candidate, it turns out we had two candidates as well, we can interpret it that way too." This led Grigoryan to demand a "clarification" from Sargsyan.

Some believe that Haik Sargsyan and Gnel Sanosyan supported Gurgen Martirosyan from behind the scenes.
