Are They Preparing for Another Surrender in Tavush?
According to the newspaper "Haykakan Jamanak," the authorities in Tavush are conducting studies for the construction of an alternative road. Some reports indicate that work is already underway. This concerns the construction of a new road in the Voskepar area. This suggests that after surrendering the Goris-Kapan highway to the enemy, it will soon be time to hand over the border areas of Tavush as well. In order to prevent a repeat of the situation in Syunik, where the enemy established a checkpoint on our roads, restricting passage between villages, authorities have decided to proceed with the construction of the alternative road in Tavush as soon as possible.
However, unlike in Syunik, where there was a difficult yet existing alternative route that needed repair, the roads in Tavush's "disputed" areas must be built from scratch, which will involve drilling through mountains—a complicated and costly process.
From the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, we received an ambiguous response that did not deny the information: "The development of the transport network in the Republic of Armenia is a top priority. Large-scale work is being carried out to both repair existing roads and construct new infrastructures. Special attention is being paid to areas where there is a need to increase the density of the road network. Studies are being conducted in various regions of the Republic regarding new routes."
