World's First SMS Message Sold at Auction in France
A historic SMS message has been sold at an auction in France. The text, reading "Merry Christmas," was sent on December 3, 1992, by Vodafone employee Neil Papworth to his colleague Richard Jarvis.
The auction took place at Aguttes auction house, where the buyer, who wished to remain anonymous, received a digital copy of the message as an NFT. The proceeds of €107,000 will be donated to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
