Has the Armenian Civil Aviation Committee Received Applications from Turkish Airlines?
The Armenian Civil Aviation Committee has not received applications from either Armenian or Turkish airlines for flights between Yerevan and Istanbul, according to Lilith Aghabekyan, the press assistant to the committee's president, in an interview with Aysor.am.
“I cannot say whether there will be an application one day or not, whether it will be tomorrow or a year from now,” she noted, adding that if any airline applies to Turkish aviation authorities for permission to operate flights to Istanbul, they must also submit an application to the Armenian Civil Aviation Committee.
Explaining the current procedure, Aghabekyan stated that, first of all, the airline must submit an application to them, after which the relevant processes will begin. The application must pass through all departments of the Civil Aviation, each of which must conduct its own checks. In the end, permission will either be granted for the flights or not.
“The last flight from Yerevan to Istanbul took place in 2015. The Turkish airline 'Atlas Global' carried out the flights, but it ceased operations due to bankruptcy. Since then, we have had neither regular nor charter flights operated by either Armenian or Turkish airlines,” stated Lilith Aghabekyan.
Earlier, Aram Ananyan, the chairman of the board of 'FLYONE ARMENIA,' informed Aysor.am that they had applied to Turkish aviation authorities for permission to operate charter flights from Yerevan to Istanbul.
