Experience Should Not Be Considered a Major Advantage: Aghazaryan on Rubinyan's Appointment as Envoy
The essence of envoys is to present the framework of issues that currently exist between Armenia and Turkey, said Hovik Aghazaryan, a member of the ruling Civil Contract party, in an interview with News.am regarding the role of envoys in the process of normalizing relations between Turkey and Armenia.
The CP member emphasized that envoys should discuss the issues with their leaderships and then "step by step come to an agreement on the problematic points."
"It is not the case that Ruben Rubinyan or the representative of the other side should determine the format of interstate relations. The experience, which is indeed an important matter, should not be considered a major advantage in this case. Ruben Rubinyan is an educated, prepared young politician, and I believe everything will proceed normally. There should be no preconditions from our side or theirs, because in the reality we are in with Turkey and Azerbaijan, if we try to normalize relations with preconditions, nothing will come of it," stated Aghazaryan.
When asked why the choice of envoy fell specifically on Rubinyan, Aghazaryan replied that his candidacy was discussed by the government. "We, the deputies, did not have the opportunity to discuss the issue, because it pertains to their functions, that is why they decided," added Aghazaryan.
