Grigor Yeritsyan Details That Marutyan Decided to Leave the CPP Before the War

Yerevan City Council member from the ‘My Step’ faction, Grigor Yeritsyan, wrote on his Facebook page: “The thesis of leaving the political team at a difficult time is as false as the media terror directed against the mayor in recent months.

The decision for Marutyan to leave the CPP was made before the war, when it was already clear to many of us that the relationships between the mayor and the council, as well as between the mayor and the political team, were already deteriorating, and the conflicting interests in managing the city’s economy were not leading to any good outcomes.

As the war begins, all disagreements are naturally set aside. One month after the war ended, in December, the mayor submitted his application to leave the party, and I hope he will soon discuss the reasons for this decision.

Against the backdrop of the political crisis and possible snap parliamentary elections, the party’s leadership requested the mayor to keep this decision private, which he did.

Before the parliamentary elections, Marutyan is accused of not joining, supporting the political team, and not interfering in the elections, fully aware that he was no longer a member of the party. This was equally strange for the public, as both the public and most city council members were unaware of these processes.

Regardless of his status, Marutyan would in no case use any administrative resources. The information about leaving the party is spread precisely by the party itself at a time when a clear directive is given to demand the mayor’s resignation. Naturally, the mayor rejects this demand, after which the council is activated to implement the CPP's decision, based on narrow party interests and unrelated to the welfare of Yerevan's residents. Those council members who do not share this political decision are called to resign their mandates.
