Amasia Elects Community Leader, CP Fails to Take Mandates
At the first session of the consolidated Amasia community council, Jemma Harutyunyan, the candidate from the "Arpi Amasia" alliance, was elected as the community leader with 9 votes in favor and none against. The Civil Contract party (CP) refused to take their council member mandates, believing that this would lead to new elections. However, the "Arpi Amasia" alliance and the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) accepted their mandates and, together, having more than 50% of the votes, elected Jemma Harutyunyan as the mayor.
Jemma Harutyunyan told News.am that 6 members of the council from her faction and 3 members from the RPA voted for her. "The 'Arpi Amasia' alliance had 6 mandates, and the RPA had 3. There was an election, and all 9 votes were cast for me, I was elected without any 'against' votes. As for the CP not taking their mandates, I cannot answer that question. Yes, we had released an official statement about forming a coalition with the CP, but it was not formalized in a document. Later, they did not wish to work with us. Therefore, there will be no CP members in the council, as they refused their 6 mandates. They have declined as a full list of 32 individuals," she said.
In the Amasia elections, the CP received 1,217 votes, the "Arpi Amasia" alliance got 1,200 votes, and the RPA secured 750 votes.
