Sahakyan Reports: Confirmed Number of Armenian Prisoners in Azerbaijan Approximately 50
The confirmed number of Armenian prisoners currently in Azerbaijan is around 50, with an unofficial count reaching an additional 80. This was reported during a conversation with journalists by human rights defender Siranush Sahakyan.
According to her, the process of returning prisoners will continue, especially as long as there are confirmed prisoners and while Azerbaijan holds these individuals, a return is inevitable. The human rights defender noted that these processes are primarily being organized within the framework of political dynamics, often facilitated by either Russia, the United States, or the European Union, as well as other influential countries utilizing their political clout to organize these returns.
“We see that the process is partial; it does not guarantee a complete return. This may be logical, as there are significant political processes underway involving international actors, within which several humanitarian issues are also being addressed,” Sahakyan pointed out.
