Mayors Face Legal Scrutiny According to 'Hraparak'

According to 'Hraparak' newspaper, on the personal instruction of Nikol Pashinyan, current law enforcement officials, who have not hesitated to arrest and detain elected mayors, are troubling other opposition mayors as well. These mayors have been nominated through opposition lists for the elections on December 5 and are now refusing to negotiate with the ruling Civil Contract party under pressure.

Several mayors from communities within the consolidated community of Vedi in the Ararat region, who have supported the opposition party 'Strong Community,' have reported that law enforcement has been inquiring about them in recent days. This appears to be an effort to prevent any unwelcome developments for the authorities, ensuring these mayors distance themselves from the opposition in future elections.

It is noteworthy that Mamigon Aslanyan, a candidate for mayor of Vanadzor, has been charged with abuse of official powers, specifically for changing the designated purpose of community-owned lands. Such charges could potentially be brought against all mayors indiscriminately.
