VIDEO: Not a Single Bystander Recognizes Grigoryan, MP on the Candidate for the Ombudsman Position
The Constitution states that anyone who enjoys a high reputation in society can be elected to the position of Ombudsman. How did you determine that your candidate, Kristine Grigoryan, is held in high regard by the public?
This was the question posed by MP Aregnaz Manukyan from the 'Armenia' faction to the ruling party's MP Vladimir Vardanyan during the discussion of Grigoryan's candidacy for the Ombudsman position in the Parliament.
Vardanyan responded that it is up to the Parliament to evaluate that criterion with their vote. He added that the candidate has been very active in the field of human rights and has collaborated with international organizations, which he deems sufficient for a candidacy.
Manukyan countered that the Constitution does not state that the Ombudsman's candidate must engage in active work but must enjoy a high reputation in society. 'I suggest that after the session, you go out onto the street and ask 10 random passersby who Kristine Grigoryan is, and I assure you that not a single one of them will recognize her,' Manukyan declared.
