‘Living Country’ to Actively Participate in Yerevan Mayor Elections

‘Zhoghovurd’ newspaper reports: Although there is still a year and a half until the Yerevan mayoral elections, political forces have already started circulating names of potential candidates to gauge public sentiment towards them. Discussions about the mayoral election have intensified following the confidence crisis initiated by the authorities regarding Hayk Marutyan. It is still unclear who will be the candidate from the ruling ‘Civil Contract’ party in the upcoming elections, as well as what future plans Hayk Marutyan has.

‘Zhoghovurd’ newspaper learned that the ‘Living Country’ party will actively participate in the Yerevan mayoral elections. According to our sources, from the outset, the party considered its co-founder and former Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Mesrop Arakelyan as a candidate for this position. However, Ruben Vardanyan, who is linked to the aforementioned party, has approved the candidacy of former LHK member Mane Tandilyan. ‘As a woman public figure who has previously worked as an official in Artsakh, it is more appropriate for Vardanyan to envision Tandilyan in that position in the future, perhaps as Yerevan’s female mayor,’ our interlocutor said.

‘Zhoghovurd’ newspaper attempted to reach Mesrop Arakelyan or Mane Tandilyan all day yesterday, but they did not respond to our phone calls or messages. Incidentally, this is not the first time they have simply not engaged with media. But if they don’t have time to answer our questions, they could at least appoint a press secretary for the party,’ the newspaper writes. More details in today’s issue of the newspaper.
