Who is the initiator of Hayk Marutyan's impeachment: NEWS

Yesterday, the "My Step" faction of the Yerevan city council introduced a project to express no confidence in Mayor Hayk Marutyan. According to circulating news, the process was initiated specifically by the leader of the "My Step" faction, Armen Galjyan. NEWS.am contacted Armen Galjyan for a comment, who stated that a political process is underway but could not provide further details at this time.

Regarding the main question of whether he was the initiator of the process, Galjyan neither confirmed nor denied it: "According to the law, there cannot be a single initiator; there must be an initiating group consisting of at least one-third of the total number of council members," he noted.

It should be pointed out that 33 signatures are necessary for the impeachment of Hayk Marutyan. Although several members of the "My Step" council have refused to join the process, 40 signatures have already been collected. Opposition factions in the council have also joined the process: all members of "Prosperous Armenia" and only Ani Khachaturyan from the "Light" faction.

Notably, shortly after, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will meet with the members of the "My Step" faction at the Government building to discuss the details of the initiative to express no confidence in Hayk Marutyan.

Remember, there have been intense discussions recently about the fact that the mayor of Yerevan and the authorities are not on the same page. Moreover, government-affiliated media outlets have been publishing articles against Hayk Marutyan. One of them mentions that after the war, Marutyan tried to distance himself from Pashinyan's team and has held meetings with the second President of the Republic of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan.
