Over $1 Billion Investment Required for Railway Resumption: Minister

Very little money is needed to repair the railway from Armenia to Iran, said RA Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan to journalists.

“Near Yeraskh, it seems, there is a renovation issue in a few hundred meters. A somewhat larger investment is required for the restoration of the railway in the Meghri area, which is quite costly,” the minister said.

He noted that the former railway in that section has been completely dismantled. “At this moment, we do not have a specific project there, nor do we have an estimated assessment. But I think the investment could be within the range of $200 million. The larger investment is for the construction of the railway from the border to Horadiz, which is already on Azerbaijani territory. That will require more than $1 billion for that section to be resumed,” Vahan Kerobyan stated.
