Hayk Marutyan to Announce His Position on No-Confidence Vote. Hakob Karapetyan
The Mayor of Yerevan, Hayk Marutyan, will announce his position regarding the no-confidence vote initiated by the "My Step" faction of the Yerevan Council. This was stated by Hakob Karapetyan, the mayor's press secretary, in a conversation with NEWS.am, without providing further details.
It should be noted that following a meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the "My Step" faction of the Yerevan Council issued a statement, which in particular stated, "Considering that: 1. The ‘My Step’ coalition formed the city government as a result of the elections held in September 2018, with the corresponding unified political and operational responsibility; 2. Hayk Marutyan was elected mayor based on the revolutionary mandate from voters who supported the ‘My Step’ coalition in the September 2018 elections; 3. Hayk Marutyan, who participated in the aforementioned elections as a candidate from the CP party and was the first on the electoral list of the ‘My Step’ coalition, left the CP party and the ‘My Step’ coalition in December 2020, and since then, through his actions during significant political events for the democracy of Armenia, reaffirmed his decision to share no political responsibility with the CP party and the ‘My Step’ coalition; 4. Hayk Marutyan has not sufficiently implemented and is not fulfilling the commitments undertaken before the citizens of Yerevan, as stipulated in the election program of the ‘My Step’ coalition; 5. Hayk Marutyan has not sufficiently carried out and is not fulfilling the critical mission of eradicating systemic corruption from the Yerevan municipality; 6. The coalition cannot fulfill its obligations and mandate in a situation where the mayor has severed ties with the political majority of the council - the ‘My Step’ coalition."
The “My Step” faction has initiated the process of voting no confidence against Mayor Hayk Marutyan. The coalition has nominated the current first deputy mayor, Hrachya Sarkisyan, for the position of mayor. We thank Hayk Marutyan for the joint work and wish him success in his new political endeavors.
