Turkey is working towards normalizing relations with Armenia and is opening charter flights to Yerevan. This was stated yesterday by Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, who noted that both countries should appoint special representatives for the normalization process.

Commenting on this proposal, Bloomberg expressed its view on the underlying reasons. “Turkey's unexpected offer stems from a request made by U.S. President Biden during a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Rome in October, where he urged Erdogan to open the border with isolated Armenia,” the agency reports, citing a senior Turkish official.

According to the agency, by taking steps towards normalizing relations with Armenia, Turkey hopes to improve its strained relationship with Washington.

It is also worth noting that the spokesperson for the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vahan Hunanyan, stated today in response to journalists' questions that Armenia will also appoint a special representative for Armenian-Turkish dialogue.
