Aliyev: The Proposal to Open the 'Zangezur Corridor' is Included in the November 9 Trilateral Statement
The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, participated in a joint press conference following a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Brussels, during which he addressed the so-called 'Zangezur Corridor'.
He specifically stated that the proposal to open the 'Zangezur Corridor' is included in the trilateral statement from November 9 of last year; thus, according to the Azerbaijani president, it is a commitment for Armenia to ensure all necessary facilities.
“At this stage, we have agreed to construct railway communication through the territory of Armenia from Azerbaijan to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, and we have also agreed on the construction of a highway. However, the exact route of the highway has not been determined; this is a matter for future discussions, which will undoubtedly be reviewed in the trilateral meeting this evening. The legal regime of the Zangezur Corridor should be the same as that of the Lachin Corridor. There are no customs posts in the Lachin Corridor. Therefore, there should not be customs posts in the Zangezur Corridor either. If Armenia wants to control the cargo and people, we will open a customs post in the Lachin Corridor,” Aliyev added.
