There Are Neighborhoods in Border Villages Where Only One or Two Houses Have Lights at Night

“In the 25 years since its establishment, the population of Tavush Province has lost the equivalent of two cities.
On February 18, 1996, when Tavush Province was formed, its population was 134,100. As of January 1, 2021, according to the State Statistical Committee, the population of the province is 121,500. This means that over the course of 25 years, the region has lost 12,600 people, equivalent to the combined population of the cities of Noyemberyan and Berd, most of whom have migrated to Russia, though there has also been some internal migration, with people relocating from border villages to Yerevan or other areas of Armenia.
The phenomenon of emigration is particularly evident in the small, border villages of Tavush Province. In these villages, there are neighborhoods where only one or two houses have lights on at night, and mainly elderly residents live there.”
