‘All this may lead to prisoners no longer wanting to return to Armenia from Baku,’ says MP

Statements and actions regarding prisoners could lead them to no longer desire to return to Armenia from Baku. This opinion was expressed by MP Hripsime Stambulyan from the ‘Armenia’ parliamentary faction during a press briefing, addressing the fact of the detention of prisoners.

The opposition MP believes that by detaining those returning homeland, the ones in Baku may demand to be transferred to a third country.

It was revealed that on December 7, a secretly filmed video featuring Alen Simonyan surfaced online, in which the Speaker of the National Assembly stated that the parents of the prisoners also know that their sons have deserted.

Following this, it became known that four servicemen, who were captured on November 16 and returned to Armenia, were detained.

‘The authority that has uniformly glorified those captured has been the government, without considering under what circumstances they were captured at the time. Now the government is once again fully leading the process of de-glorifying the prisoners. By doing this, the government is evidently advancing Azerbaijani interests,’ said Stambulyan.

According to her, the government does not think about what will happen next when Azerbaijan sees that those returning to their homeland are being detained here. Stambulyan noted that our boys may refuse to return to Armenia and request to be placed in some third country.

The MP added that this could pose serious international issues for Armenia.
