Reforms of Yerevan's Transport Network Delayed; New Deadline Set
Yerevan's public transport modernization has been postponed. The government, in a decision made during today's session, has set new deadlines for the program. As a result, the reforms that were expected to take place in 2022 are now delayed for another three years, until 2025.
The issue at hand is that a previously adopted decision was set to prohibit the operation of buses and minibuses older than ten years on the routes of Yerevan's intra-community regular transport starting from June 1, 2022. However, the government later realized that banning the operation of old vehicles would create serious problems in organizing intra-community passenger transport in Yerevan, putting the entire process of regular passenger transport in the capital at risk of failure.
Therefore, it has been decided to extend the operation period of old buses for an additional three years, until July 2025, in order to ensure the smooth service for citizens and not disrupt the process of regular passenger transport in the capital, until new vehicles (buses, trolleys) are acquired, the final completion of the public transport fleet, and the implementation of Yerevan's new transport route network.
