Charges Filed Against Former Leader of Vardenis

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has reported that several circumstances have been revealed in the case being investigated regarding the former head of the Vardenis community for exceeding official powers, committing fraud, and forgery of documents.

According to the Investigative Committee, the investigation has gathered evidence suggesting that the former head of the Vardenis community, who held the position of head of the Social Support Agency's Vardenis Territorial Division from March 2004 to November 2017, committed numerous abuses.

It has specifically been established that the official aimed to use obviously false data and, with a unified intent, embezzled funds from the state budget through fraud. Together with two employees from the same agency, he organized and committed a particularly large-scale theft of state-provided financial assistance allocated to underprivileged families.

To carry out his criminal intent, in 2013, he instructed the agency's aforementioned employees to enter the vital data of approximately 250 citizens who were not beneficiaries of social assistance into the computer database of the Vardenis Social Support Territorial Division.
