Sisak Gabrielyan Comments on the Altercation in the National Assembly
Member of the "Civil Contract" faction, Sisak Gabrielyan, denies being involved in the incident that took place in the National Assembly on December 7.
"I am not familiar with the details simply because I was not at the scene. I regret not being there; perhaps I could have intervened in some way. I arrived at the moment when there was noise. I approached a guy who was in a scuffle, I simply hugged him and escorted him to the door where the journalists were," Gabrielyan said in an interview with reporters, as reported by "Armenpress."
The MP finds it difficult to say whether there was violence or not: "It was an unpleasant incident and an unpleasant scene; it is unacceptable for me. Of course, I regret that many of you were attributing actions to me that I did not take," noted Gabrielyan.
Earlier, in a briefing with reporters, MP Aram Vardevanyan from the "Armenia" faction, detailing the incident, stated that it occurred in the office of the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Ruben Rubinyan.
The MP claimed that representatives of the Civil Contract invited opposition MPs' assistants to the office under the pretext of having coffee, after which they were subjected to organized violence.
The Prosecutor's Office is investigating the reports regarding the altercation that occurred in the National Assembly. The reports have been sent to the National Security Service for preparation of materials.
