Armenia Joins CIS Armed Forces Communication System
The CIS countries have established a joint communication system for armed forces to facilitate information exchange and coordination among member states’ armies. This information is noted in the text of the agreement, which has been published on the legal information portal of the Russian government. Armenia has also joined the communication system.
According to the document signed for an indefinite period, the agreement came into force on November 28, 2021, and remains open for any CIS member state to join. In addition to Russia and Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan have also signed the agreement.
The main objectives of this system are expected to be the provision of communication services and information exchange between the armed forces of the participating countries, cooperation in the military sector, and ensuring the compatibility of national communication and special communication systems of the CIS countries.
The coordination will be carried out by the committee of the heads of communication of the armed forces of the CIS member states, whose chairman will be the head of the main communications department of the Russian armed forces.
According to the document, part of the forces and means of the joint communication system will carry out permanent combat duty from the command posts of the agreement's participant countries. Moreover, the participants in the agreement are obliged not to transfer the information obtained within the framework of this communication system to third countries, as well as not to use the received data to the detriment of the other members of the agreement.
