17 Schoolchildren Killed in Lagos Hit-and-Run

In Nigeria's largest city, Lagos, a truck driver has run over and killed 17 schoolchildren. This was reported by the Vanguard newspaper.

The incident occurred when the driver, attempting to evade police pursuit, lost control of the vehicle. The precise number of students injured with varying degrees of severity has yet to be determined.

According to the newspaper, an angry mob tried to see the driver face 'mob justice' (to punish without legal proceedings). The truck was set on fire.

The police have detained the truck driver.
