Will the Prosperous Armenia Party Form a Coalition with the Government? Arman Abovyan Responds

The ruling party, even utilizing administrative resources, faced defeats in several communities. This was noted by former MP and member of the Prosperous Armenia Party, Arman Abovyan, in an interview with Factinfo.

He indicated that the current authorities tried to do something, but exerting pressure on people had an opposite effect. On election day, Abovyan commented on the letters sent to the residents of Abovyan by the candidate from the ruling Civil Contract party, Anahit Mkrtchyan, which not only engaged in pre-election campaigning urging participation in the elections and reminding them of their number on the ballot, but also essentially warned that their participation in the elections could be checked. In response, Arman Abovyan stated that if there are elements of a crime, law enforcement should address that issue.

“This information is public, and it should serve as a basis for law enforcement to take action. I don't know if they have approached law enforcement or not, but this fact must definitely be verified,” emphasized Abovyan.

According to preliminary results of the local elections in Abovyan, the Prosperous Armenia Party has won with 46.19% of the votes, but in order to form a majority in the council, they need to establish a coalition with other forces. Arman Abovyan stated that as their mayoral candidate Eduard Babayan has announced, talks about forming a coalition with the government cannot take place.

“We will see about the rest. The Civil Contract is excluded,” Abovyan remarked.
