Unable to Call Artsakh: Are Azerbaijanis Using Jamming Devices?

Calls to Artsakh are failing. Auroranews has been receiving reports from Armenian citizens regarding this issue for several days.

To understand how credible these reports are and whether the problem has been resolved, we tried to contact our compatriots living in Artsakh, but to no avail. Initially, calls did not go through at all, and later, when they did connect, the line was quickly dropped or the voice of the person on the other end was inaudible.

It is noteworthy that on December 5, the Human Rights Defender of Artsakh reported that since November 9, 2021, after the visit to the occupied city of Shushi by the President of Azerbaijan, communication means in Artsakh have been seriously disrupted for about a month.

“There is no doubt that the accessibility of mobile communication and the internet in the territory of Artsakh is being deliberately obstructed by Azerbaijanis through methods that affect the frequencies and technical means used by companies providing telecommunications services. Azerbaijan uses any method to violate the rights of the population of Artsakh and create inconveniences,” the Human Rights Defender of Artsakh stated.

Auroranews reached out to employees of 'Karabakh Telecom' to clarify the situation. When asked if relevant work is being carried out to resolve the issue, they indicated that they are working in that direction.

The company declined to provide further details verbally and referred to the aforementioned statement from the Artsakh Human Rights Defender.

In our conversation, Vahan Badasyan, an advisor to the President of Artsakh on security and refugee issues, stated that it is likely that jamming devices are being used by Azerbaijanis, but the company is currently taking actions to resolve the problem.
