Law Enforcement Locates and Detains Former Mayor of Stepanavan
Law enforcement officers from the main department of criminal investigations, acting upon data obtained from operational-intelligence measures, discovered and detained the former mayor of Stepanavan on the night of December 5 on Vagharchyan Street in Yerevan.
The Armenian police report that the 59-year-old man is accused of offenses stipulated by two articles of the criminal code - legalizing illegal income (money laundering) and abuse of official powers.
He was implicated as a defendant in a criminal case initiated on September 13, but had been evading prosecution, leading to his being placed on the wanted list on November 5. The 59-year-old man has been handed over to the officers of the Stepanavan police department. The preliminary investigation of the criminal case is ongoing, as stated in the announcement.
