23-Year-Old Police Officer in Yerevan Strikes Pedestrian with Skoda; Victim Dies at Scene
On December 4, a fatal pedestrian accident occurred in Yerevan. Around 16:10, 23-year-old Yerem Galstyan, a resident of the Armavir province, struck 53-year-old Ara Galstyan, a Yerevan resident, while driving his Skoda vehicle under the pedestrian crossing near building 22 on Tigran Mets Avenue. According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, the impact caused the pedestrian to be thrown beneath the left wheel of a Suzuki driven by a citizen of Romania, resulting in his immediate death.
The driver of the Skoda did not flee the scene and called for an ambulance, with the medical team confirming the pedestrian's death. Subsequently, Yerem Galstyan reported the incident to the operational management center of the Armenian police.
According to Shamshyan's sources, Galstyan works as a police officer in the Patrol Service of Yerevan. He underwent a sobriety test and was found to be sober. He was also transported from the scene to the “Erebuni” medical center.
A criminal case has been initiated by the decision of D. Martirosyan regarding the incident.
