VIDEO: 36-Year-Old Woman Arrested on Suspicions of Grandmother's Murder in Charentsavan

The investigation is underway at the Charentsavan Investigation Division of the Kotayk Regional Investigation Department regarding a fire that broke out in one of the apartments in the 2nd district of Charentsavan and the murder of an 89-year-old woman.

On December 3, 2021, at 5:30 AM, following a report received from a citizen about the incident, a group of investigators from the Kotayk Regional Investigation Department, led by the head of the department, immediately traveled to the scene.

After firefighters extinguished the blaze, the body of the 89-year-old resident was found in the apartment, burnt and smoke-injured. An external examination of the crime scene and the body revealed signs of violence on the elderly woman’s body.

It was established that at the time of the fire, besides the 89-year-old woman, her 36-year-old granddaughter and her 5-year-old daughter were also present in the apartment and were subsequently taken to a medical center.

Considering that the materials prepared regarding the incident provide a legal basis for initiating a criminal case, a criminal case has been initiated at the Charentsavan Investigation Division of the Kotayk Regional Investigation Department under Article 104, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia.

On the same day, the 36-year-old granddaughter was arrested on suspicion of murdering her grandmother. For the purpose of clarifying significant circumstances of the criminal case, forensic medical, forensic medical, and forensic fire-technical examinations have been appointed. Measures are being taken to clarify all circumstances of the fire and the nature of the injuries on the elderly woman's body.

Instructions have been given to the investigative body.
