Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the situation in the coal sector during a meeting today regarding the tragedy at the Listvyazhnaya mine and the working conditions of miners. “They are taking risks, and we all must create conditions so that there is no need to take such risks. That was the essence of our decisions in 2010,” stated the leader of Russia, striking the table with his fist.

He also revealed the cause of the accident in the mine. According to Putin, the tragedy occurred due to a lack of oversight of work processes by management and the falsification of sensor readings.

The accident at the Listvyazhnaya mine happened on November 25, resulting in the deaths of 51 people, including 46 miners and 5 rescuers. According to preliminary investigations, the tragedy was caused by a methane explosion.
