Small Arms Used: Artsakh Ombudsman on Gunfire Sounds in Red Market
On December 2, around 10:30 AM, the Azerbaijani side opened fire from positions located towards the Red Market community of Martuni region in the Republic of Artsakh, with the gunfire lasting for 10-15 minutes. Mainly small arms were used, reported Artsakh's Human Rights Defender Gegham Stepanyan.
“According to the clarifications received, the gunfire was heard in the residential area of the community, and the bullets from the used weapons passed through the residents' gardens. No cases of human or material damage have been recorded as a result of the gunfire,” he noted.
According to the Artsakh Ombudsman, the Azerbaijani side continues its criminal actions against the rights of the people of Artsakh by violating the ceasefire regime established by the trilateral statement and the agreements reached at a high level, primarily infringing on the right to life and the psychological and physical inviolability of the peaceful population.
“Since the establishment of the ceasefire, we have repeatedly stated that with such criminal actions, the Azerbaijani side aims to intimidate the people living in Artsakh and to create an atmosphere of fear and despair to achieve the depopulation of Artsakh. It remains critically necessary to immediately remove the Azerbaijani armed bases from the vicinity of peaceful settlements in Artsakh and to implement mechanisms for an impartial investigation of the ceasefire violations to curb the Azerbaijani side's criminal actions and ensure the safety and rights of the residents,” Gegham Stepanyan declared.
