Emergency Situation: Aparan-Spitak Highway Impassable Due to Snow

For more than one and a half hours, traffic on the Aparan to Spitak winding section of the Yerevan-Vanadzor highway has become dangerous. According to photos reported by shamshyan.com, the cause is heavy snowfall and the lackadaisical approach of some drivers, as summer tires are being used on vehicles. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Road Police have been urging drivers for several days now to change to winter tires.

No road treatment work has been carried out on the specified section, while the responsible road maintenance teams should have already started the process of treating the roads with salt and sand. In the Tsilkqar-Gegharot areas, a large number of trucks are unable to move, with some partially blocking the road, causing traffic jams. If the road maintenance teams do not begin work soon, the situation will worsen, and the number of stranded vehicles will continue to increase. No road treatment work has been conducted at any section.
