Armenia Retracts from Previous Statements: 'Jamanak'
The newspaper 'Jamanak' reports: 'After the meeting of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia in Sochi, the thoughts expressed by the leaders of the three countries during a press conference for the media indicate that Armenia has retreated from its previous statements.' This is the opinion of former National Assembly member Tatevik Hayrapetyan.
In a conversation with 'Jamanak,' she recalled how, after Azerbaijani forces entered the territory near Lake Sevan on May 12, the Armenian side stated that there would be no return to the delimitation and demarcation processes until Azerbaijani troops were withdrawn from Armenian territory. 'The same was said regarding the unblocking process. However, judging by the statements of the Azerbaijani president and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs following the meeting in Sochi, as well as the discussions held in Ashgabat, where it was stated that the so-called “Zangezur corridor” is becoming a reality, the provisions of the trilateral statement seem questionable.' Furthermore, on one hand, Prime Minister Pashinyan notes that there seemed to be disagreements on certain issues with Azerbaijan, but it has been clarified that they do not exist. On the other hand, texts regarding arrangements are being voiced by the Azerbaijani leadership after the meeting. Consequently, it remains unclear why Azerbaijan continues the same rhetoric after the meeting,' the former deputy commented.
When asked whether it is possible that there were verbal agreements during the trilateral meeting, which the public would unexpectedly learn about after some time, Hayrapetyan did not rule out anything. 'You remember, for example, the agreements regarding the Goris-Kapan road were kept secret, and for a long time, no one was aware of this, including us, the deputies. In other words, there are numerous actions that we learn about ex post facto,' she added.
